TAYLOR SWIFT THROUGH THE YEARS

December 1989: Taylor was born in Reading, Pennsylvania. She grew up singing and playing the guitar, before moving to Nashville at age 14 to pursue a career in music.

October 2006: Taylor releases her self-titled debut album, featuring a collection of country-pop songs. Her single ‘Tim McGraw’ makes it to the Top 20.

November 2008: At 18, Taylor releases her second studio album, Fearless, selling over 10 million copies in America. Track highlights include ‘You Belong With Me’ and ‘Love Story’.

September 2009: The infamous ‘Kanye incident’ happens at the MTV Video Music Awards. Kanye interrupts her speech for Best Female Video, advocating Beyoncé’s ‘Single Ladies’ instead. When Beyoncé wins Video of the Year, she invites Taylor onstage to finish her speech.

January 2010: Taylor wins the Grammy for Album of the Year for Fearless at 19 years old, making her the youngest artist to ever win the award.

October 2010: Taylor releases her third studio album, Speak Now, featuring songs such as ‘Sparks Fly’ and ‘Mean’.

October 2012: Taylor releases her fourth album, Red, featuring previously released hit #1 single, ‘We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together’.

October 2014: Taylor releases her fifth album, 1989, featuring chart dominating singles ‘Shake It Off’ and ‘Blank Space’.

Taylor Swift – 1989 (2014) Following the release of her fourth studio album Red (2012), which critics considered Swift's emergence from her trademark country styles to straightforward pop, Swift sought to completely move away from country. Inspired by 1980s synth-pop, she enlisted a production team whose key figures included herself, Max Martin, Shellback, Ryan Tedder, and Jack Antonoff, who shaped the album's overall 1980s-styled sonic coherence. February 2016: The second ‘Kanye incident’ happens as he releases ‘Famous’, including the lyric: “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. Why? I made that bitch famous.” Taylor has made it clear that she was never told the actual lyric in advance, and later spoke out against his action in her Grammy speech.

November 2017: Following a publicity campaign in which she wiped all of her social media accounts completely, Taylor releases her sixth studio album, Reputation, featuring songs such as ‘Look What You Made Me Do’.

August 2019: Taylor releases her seventh album, Lover, completely contrasting the tone of her previous release, with songs such as ‘ME!’, featuring Brendon Urie.

And now, in July 2020: Taylor has just released her eighth album, Folklore, doing fantastically with sales in its early run.

Love her or hate her, with 10 Grammy wins and over 30 nominations, Taylor Swift sure has been through one hell of a journey.
