Before Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th President of the United States, two of the glitziest female recording stars of the last two decades brought things to a crescendo in the Capitol.
Sure, there were very few screaming fans but Jennifer Lopez still got loud. Lopez’s song choice was unusual as she combined This Land Is Your Land with American The Beautiful and then said ‘Let’s Get Loud’ as she added in a few words in Spanish which translated to ‘One nation, under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all.’ But the crowd seemed to love her choices.
Lady Gaga delivered a performance as only she can.
This inauguration was something different and the message that it was a celebration of hope was received loud and clear as the two performers toned it down from their usual flashy look but turned it up when it came to their passion.
Lopez even dropped a “let’s get loud”, a nod to one of her biggest hits, into her medley of This Land is Your Land and America the Beautiful but also at a ceremony that saw the new President call for unity, she recited part of the pledge of allegiance in Spanish.
While Lopez was the warm-up and stepped on stage in a white tweed coat from Chanel’s fall/winter 2020/2021 Ready-to-Wear collection, teamed with white sequin wide-leg pants and a white silk blouse from the French fashion house’s fall/winter 2019/2020 Ready-to-Wear collection. She accessorized the look with pearl-embellished earrings, bracelets and belts also from Chanel.
Gaga, 34, stunned in a custom Schiaparelli navy structured fitted jacket adorned with a gold chest brooch of a dove holding an olive branch in its beak. The ensemble also featured a silk ballgown skirt in a contrasting red hue.
Gaga was the main course and for the strident supporter of Mr Biden this was anything like the time she played the halftime show at the 2017 Super Bowl when dressed in a space-age theme.
She performed a dramatic version of the US national anthem and sang The Star-Spangled Banner.
Gaga turned at one point to gesture to the US flag flying high over the Capitol, the seat of Congress that just two weeks ago was the scene of an attack by supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump seeking to overturn Mr Biden’s election victory.
Ahead of her performance, Gaga said “I pray tomorrow will be a day of peace for all Americans. A day for love, not hatred. A day for acceptance not fear. A day for dreaming of our future joy as a country. A dream that is non-violent, a dream that provides safety for our souls,” she wrote on Twitter.
Lady Gaga’s Tweet Pre Performance
After the event ended, Jennifer took to Instagram to share a bevy of snaps where she was posed with Alex on the steps of the Capitol.
