Social Media Celebrates Women This March!

Revised & Edited By Ariana Meyers

March is the month where we celebrate women: with events like Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day coming up – we are here to give you the lowdown on how social media platforms are starting to celebrate women.

TikTok

To celebrate all the intelligent, creative, and beautiful women using its platform, TikTok has announced a slew of women-inspired content.

“Throughout March, we’ll unveil a variety of themed programming featuring popular creators, and beloved artists and celebrities who are inspiring powerhouse women. We’ll also host a special seven-hour TikTok LIVE telethon on International Women’s Day, March 8, to raise money for organizations that are committed to providing support and resources to help women continue flourishing in their lives. Each week, the programming will focus on a different theme around embracing and celebrating the diverse and growing community of women on TikTok”.

TikTok has also announced its lineup of weekly Hashtag themes to spur its users to create content that celebrates women: #WhenWomenWin, #ThanksToHer, #HerStory, #SheEarnedIt, and #GetThereTogether will be the hashtags and are assigned to each respective week of March.

Additionally, TikTok seeks to promote female-owned businesses with their initiative ‘Pass the Mic’ – where female founders share their stories and provide advice to aspiring business women.

Pinterest

To celebrate International Women’s day, Pinterest announced a Pinterest Shop Collection which focuses on representing small female-owned businesses like Bon Femmes, Blueland and ZOU XOU.

Facebook

Facebook has launched a range of new features to celebrate Women’s History Month. These features include the use of Facebook Live rooms to hold discussions on how women can help each other succeed and the creation of custom stickers on Facebook Messenger in collaboration with Refinery29 – a women’s media and entertainment company. These stickers are meant to encourage users to shop from female-owned businesses on Facebook and Instagram. Facebook will also be encouraging its users to use the hashtags #shoutout and #IWD2021 to share stories about the most important women in their life.

Additionally, Facebook has announced their upcoming Women x Women campaign – which will start March 8th. The campaign will “spotlight inspiring stories of women, celebrate their accomplishments and showcase how they’ve found strength and community across our apps this year”.
