YouTuber and amateur-turned-pro boxer Jake Paul is reportedly in custody and is being investigated by authorities in Puerto Rico after he uploaded a now-deleted video of him driving a motorized vehicle on a protected beach during turtle nesting season.
Rafael Marchargo – the Secretary of Natural and Environmental Resources in Puerto Rico – shared an official statement – where he deemed Paul’s offense as illegal in Puerto Rico and that the particular incident could lead to serious fines and other penalties:
“I have ordered an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the use of two motor vehicles on beaches that are presented to be in Puerto Rico. Some media have published today a video of the influencer Jake Paul in a motor vehicle on the beach, an activity that is prohibited, apart from law enforcement agencies. Although the video does not establish where or when it was carried out, the DNER reminds citizens that this type of activity is prohibited by law to protect the environment and the species that can nest or live on the beaches. Those who violate the law face fines and other penalties, if applicable.”
Puerto Rico’s Dept. of Natural & Environmental Resources has launched an investigation after video surfaced on social media showing Jake Paul reportedly riding in a motorized vehicle on a beach in P.R. That is against the law, says the @DRNAGPR Secretary.

It seems like Paul cannot stay away from controversy. The 24-year-old has – on numerous occasions – filmed insensitive and dangerous content, which includes driving and walking blindfolded for the Bird Box challenge, and being charged with criminal trespass and unlawful assembly [which were later dropped] – after participating in a mall looting during the George Floyd protests.
