Change is in the air at Facebook Inc.Â
The social networking giant has started undergoing huge corporate changes. Yesterday, Facebook announced it was restructuring company executive roles and dividing itself into three internal “teams”.Â
According to Business Insider ” . . . Facebook is going through a massive executive shakeup, reorganizing and assigning new leaders to practically all of its major product teams. Under the new structure, Facebook will be divided into three teams: family of apps, central product services, and new platforms and infrastructure . . .”
The social network will now have a division complete dedicated to developing blockchain technology, headed up by former Facebook Messenger executive David Marcus.Â
Â
Facebook itself, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram all fall into the “family of apps” category. “Central product services” is comprised of “core functionality that drives the company” (i.e. ad’s, analytics, integrity, growth, etc.) And “new platforms and infrasturcture” will include blockchain technology development, along with AR and AI technologies.
Mark Zuckerberg will remain CEO of the company
Will Facebook’s Executive Shake Up Affect Users?
The short answer is probably no.
Users most likely won’t see any immediate changes to the platform, despite the internal restructuring. What we will see is Facebook prioritizing technologies like blockchain, AR and AI.
Either way, Facebook is the company to watch.
