This MENA Country Just Blocked YouTube

Video fans, we’ve got bad news for you.

If you live in Egypt, you won’t be able to keep up with Roman Atwood and your favourite creators for the next month.

On Saturday, the country’s top administrative courts ordered a 30 day ban on YouTube due to its hosting of an anti-Islamic video that has been the subject of controversy since 2012.

According to Mohamed Hamed Salem, the lawyer who filed the lawsuit against video-sharing platform, “. . . the ruling is final, unappealable and enforceable.”

Salem also said that punishment for the website will cost it “massive economic losses.”

“The NTRA is responsible for implementing the ban and there is no technical difficulty to do so,” Salem said. “I will file a lawsuit against the NTRA chief if the ban is not implemented.”

At the moment, there’s no word on whether other countries in the region plan on following Egypt’s lead. YouTube is currently blocked in China, and has been temporarily blocked in other countries like Thailand, Turkey, Morocco and Russia.
