What comes to mind when you think cell phone? Calls, social media, heaps of memes, selfies, that annoying Drake song still stuck in your head, well now you have another reason to cherish your beloved handheld device.
As it was reported yesterday by local news agency WAM, that in an effort to streamline travel procedure and movement across the Dubai International Airport, travellers will be able to use their smartphones instead of passports or express gate cards.
Dubbed the ‘Emirates Smart Wallet’, incorporating traveller personal data, Emirates ID, passport info, and the aforementioned e-gate card, the scheme was launched at the airport’s departure terminal by Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubai’s Deputy Chief of Police and Public Security, and Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Head of Dubai’s Naturalisation and Residency Department.
To facilitate the same, the renowned airport has secured the help of its partners, Dubai Customs, Dubai General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), Dubai Police, and Dubai Airports; together aiming to create innovative and practical solutions to any problems currently faced in the airport based on “6s” – speed, smart, safety, security, saving and service.
