Analytics platform Sensor Tower, has reported that video sharing app TikTok has been downloaded more than 2 billion times globally. Sensor Tower says India, China, and the US are the countries that account for the most downloads. Downloads however do not indicate already active users- which would put the overall global user base at a much higher number.
According to the article, India has been the biggest driver for overall app downloads with 611 million lifetime downloads as of May 2020.
China is the No. 2 country for installs with 196.6 million downloads and the US comes in at 65 million installs as of May 2020.
It is indeed no secret that social media continues to thrive amidst global COVID-19 lockdowns as users rely on such apps to keep connections alive amid social distancing rules.Â
Social networking apps play an important role not just in communication and connection amongst users but also serves as a major platform where users get their news and updates regarding current issues.Â
