Reigning Queen of TikTok Chari D’Amelio knows better than anyone else how much influence a dance challenge or seemingly innocent trend can carry.
On May 16th, D’Amelio took to Twitter to express her ‘disgust’ at a new trend which has been making its way around the platform.
hello everyone, there is a sound going around on tiktok making fun of disabilities. that is completely unacceptable, wrong, and the fact that people think that the ”trend” is not disrespectful and disgusting is not okay!

What is the trend?
A ‘sound’ by user Zanayasligh instructs users to “break your wrist”, which is then imitated by contorting the hand as though they have had a spasm.
A TikTok user commented that the ‘trend’ is offensive to those who suffer with celebral palsy and other disabilities due to the weak muscles and brain development.
D’Amelio’s voice does make a difference on the video sharing platform so we can expect that GEN Z would in fact listen to what she has to say.
“The fact people think that the ‘trend’ is not disrespectful and disgusting is not okay!” Her Tweet was liked over 100,000 times in less than 24 hours, as fans praised her taking a strong stance on the controversy.
