The UAE’s favourite professional boxer Badou Jack will be fighting against Richard Rivera in Saudi Arabia, on the 20th of August 2022. Badou will be on the undercard for the Anthony Joshua vs Usyk fight, so we ask him how he is feeling, and what he includes in his training routine.
The Interview
Congratulations on confirming your next fight in Saudi Arabia! How do you feel being on the undercard for Anthony Joshua vs Usyk?
It feels great to be part of another mega event and especially in this region. I would like to thank everyone involved who was able to make this happen and for the opportunity to fight on another big stage.
When does the training start and what is your training routine?
I typically start my training camp 8 weeks before the fight. Training sessions are twice a day, sometimes three. Since I just fought in May, in Abu Dhabi, I’m in very good shape even before I started this camp.
What is your favourite part of training for a fight?
I love the sport of boxing, so I enjoy it all. But if I had to pick, Sparring, my daily massages, and the great meals my Nutritionist/Chef cooks for me.
What advantages or disadvantages do you think you have over your opponent Richard Rivera?
My advantages are my experience not just in boxing but in the world’s biggest events. In addition to that, I believe I am an overall better fighter.
Do you study your opponent before a fight, or do you concentrate on yourself and your own training?
I focus on myself and what I have to do on fight night. My opponent has to make adjustments for me, not the other way around.
Your last major fight was of course in Abu Dhabi where you had a knockout in under a minute – do you still think about that fight?
I loved being a part of the first boxing event that took place in Abu Dhabi and look forward to returning there with Badou Jack Promotions in a mega event soon. The fight itself is in the past and I’m just looking forward to getting back in the ring and taking the next step to capture my 3rd world title.
What has the response been on social media regarding the ‘Rage on the Red Sea’ fight on the 20th of August?
It’s been great so far. Anytime you have a Heavyweight World Title fight with so much at stake, the fans love it. I’m honored to be a part of such a great event
Are you planning on getting another knockout? How many rounds do you think it will take? Give us your personal predictions on your match!
I always train for a long and tough fight, but will absolutely look to stop him.  If I do what I’m supposed to, we will get the knockout.
Thank you for interviewing with us Badou Jack and we look forward to watching you again on Saturday 20th August 2022 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
