BTS Celebrates 10th Debut Anniversary: First K-pop Band To Conquer The Globe

BTS, popularly known as the Bangtan Boys and the biggest boy group in the world till now, are all set to mark June 13, 2023, as their 10th debut anniversary. The band consists of Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, who co-write and co-produce many of their songs.

The band members were seen sharing heartfelt messages with fans over social media platforms before the big day. The boy band also conveyed its gratitude towards ARMY for its unconditional support over the past decade.

Highlights of BTS’ purple decade

BTS, the South Korean band was formed in 2010, the band debuted in 2013 under Big Hit Entertainment with the single album “2 Cool 4 Skool” followed by their first Korean and Japanese-language studio albums, ‘Dark & Wild’ and ‘Wake Up’ in 2014.

By 2017, the boy band had crossed into the global music market and led the Korean wave into the United States, becoming the first Korean ensemble to receive a Gold certification from RIAA for their single album ‘Mic Drop’, also becoming the first act from South Korea to top the Billboard 200 with ‘Love Yourself: Tear (2018).

With a record of selling more than 40 million albums as of 2023, it is the best-selling artist and most popular band in South Korean history. Despite all the hate and backlash initially for poor outfits and styling, the boy band was recognized for its distinct music genre and received the Best New Artist award at the Melon Music Awards in South Korea.

The K-pop band was also nominated for Grammy for their album ‘Dynamite’. The boy band has made a purple mark over the world and South Korea is celebrating their 10 Debut Anniversary with them.

Skyscrapers, bridges, and other Seoul structures in South Korea’s capital lit up in purple on Monday as the country began celebrating global popularity and the 10th anniversary of the BTS band, who have given all the reasons to be proud and celebrate.

The lights provided the backdrop for various social media-driven events marking the 2013 debut, and messages and videos from fans congratulating BTS were displayed on digital screens in buildings across Seoul. The postal authorities have gone a step ahead to show their pride in BTS, by issuing stamps marking the group’s anniversary which will be made available on June 13.

BTS band has since 2013, performed in sold-out arenas around the world and was invited by various countries including the United States. They were invited to speak at United Nations meetings, supported and hooted by a legion of global followers across the world calling themselves “ARMY”.

BTS band has put all its activities on hold, as a full group the artists have started to serve in the Korean military. In South Korea, all able-bodied men are required to serve 18-21 months in uniform under a system meant to deter aggression from rival North Korea.

BTS, the boy band is likely to reconvene around 2025. However, even if BTS is not present in front of their passionate fans ARMYs, the band released two OT7 singles ‘The Planet’ as the original soundtrack of the Korean animation Bastions and Take Two on June 10, which is all over their social media as a special gift for the 2023 BTS FESTA.
