CD Projekt Red, the developer of Cyberpunk 2077, has announced the first expansion of the popular game. What makes the announcement more interesting? Hollywood star Keanu Reeves will be returning as Johnny Silverhand and gamers could not be more thrilled. Phantom Liberty, the “spy-thriller expansion” of the flagship game, will be launching sometime in 2023 and has promised to introduce more landscapes and characters.
The announcement was made during a Twitch Livestream, which Reeves joined. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Stadia. However, the game will not be available on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One as it was the cause of the company’s woes during the launch of Cyberpunk 2077. While the company has not released a fixed date for the launch, gamers are excited to see what the new expansion has to offer.
Reeves was excited to be back and expressed his enthusiasm on the Livestream.
“Hey everyone, Johnny Silverhand is coming back and so am I. Get ready for Phantom Liberty, the upcoming expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. It’s awesome to be back playing the role of Johnny, and I hope you’re excited to see him rocking out once more in the dark future. Cyberpunk 2077: What’s the game all about?
Cyberpunk 2077 was launched in December 2022, but not without a few significant setbacks. As the bugs got sorted, the game went on to become a massive hit, with over 18 million copies being sold. Gabriel Amatangelo, the game director of Cyberpunk 2077, remarked, “We’re having a lot of fun with it. It’s a new style of plot we’re having fun with. New cast of characters expanding on a district in Night City where it primarily takes place.” when speaking of the new expansion.
Cyberpunk 2077 is an action-adventure story that is set in Night City. The Night City is described as “a megalopolis obsessed with power, glamour and body modification”. In the game, you play as V, “who is a mercenary outlaw going after a one-of-a-kind implant that is the key to immortality.” The game is popular and has a huge following.
What are the other expansions of Cyberpunk 2077?
Cyberpunk 2077: Edgerunners will release a 10-episode standalone anime about a kid attempting to survive in a “technology and body modification-obsessed city”. The series will be hitting Netflix on September 13. CD Projekt Red and Anime studio Trigger have partnered up for the anime launch.
