The Apple 15 event ‘Wonderlust’ was streamed live on the 12th of September. Many rumors were confirmed and even more new products and features were announced from new charging ports and an amazing camera. Here’s a roundup of all the big announcements Apple made at its event.
The action button
The high-end iPhones, the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max were announced at the event yesterday with significant changes since last year’s round-up. The new titanium build ensures that the smartphones also come with thinner bezels and a lighter design.
Not only are they made of titanium but they have action buttons instead of the regular mute switches. This button can be customized by users to run shortcuts they want, such as opening the camera, turning on the flashlight, and more. You can still use it as a ringer switch, but it’s tempting not to want to use it to do more.
The 5x telephoto camera
The iPhone lineup from this year also brings powerful camera upgrades. A more advanced 48MP main camera with a default super-high-resolution system will enable the equivalent of seven pro lenses with incredible image quality. The iPhone 15 Pro Max will exclusively see an all-new 5x Telephoto camera.
The camera combines optical image stabilization and an autofocus 3D sensor-shift module, creating Apple’s most advanced stabilization system yet. The high-end camera also features great creative control, sharper detail, more vivid colors, and better low-light performance.
USB-C replaces the lightning port
All new devices come with USB-C for the first time. Even the AirPods Pro (2nd generation) will now be equipped with USB-C charging abilities. The benefits of this are unmatched. The new USB‑C connector is supercharged with USB 3 speeds — up to 20x faster than USB 2 — and together with new video formats, enables powerful pro workflows that were not possible before.
Apple Watch Series 9
The latest Series 9 watch comes with a brand new, upgraded, S9 processor, and it comes in pink! The watch also features a “double-tap” gesture that involves tapping your index finger and thumb together twice to do things like answer calls or snooze an alarm.
Leather bands will no longer be available, as Apple is hoping to reduce its carbon footprint. You can order them starting today with availability on September 22nd.
Standby mode on iOS17
This latest feature changes the way you use your phone when it’s off. When you are charging your phone while its screen is off and have it rotated to landscape orientation, it becomes a widget machine.
You can see a full-screen clock, a clock next to your calendar, a full-screen slideshow of your photos, controls for your music, your activity progress for the day, the weather, Live Activities, or lots of other things.
Apple plans on launching iOS 17, watchOS 10, and iPadOS 17 on September 18th.
Dynamic Island
The entire iPhone 15 lineup will feature the Dynamic Island that initially only came with the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models. The action buttons on the high-end iPhone 15s work in collaboration with the Dynamic Island.
Apple has designed the Island to be a dynamic display that can change its size and shape based on the content displayed on the screen. When not in use, the Dynamic Island appears as a small, rounded black area that is smaller than the notch, taking up less space than before. You can use it to track any live activities, such as watching when your Uber drive approaches, getting live sports scores on a game you’re following, and more.
