A movie that has garnered attention from film enthusiasts across the globe, Dune is considered one of the best critically and commercially acclaimed Sci-fi films in recent times. With Dune’s ten nominations and six wins at the Academy Awards, Dune: Part Two is a much-awaited sequel. Dune was shot in many parts of the world, including Hungary, Jordan, Slovakia, Norway, United Arab Emirates, and Austria.

Dune is Villeneuve’s version of Frank Herbert’s best-selling novel and the most successful of all its adaptations. Dune: Part Two will start filming in Abu Dhabi next month. It will be shot in the Liwa desert, a perfect spot to depict the fictional planet of Arrakis. The sequel will focus on the second part of the novel and will also see new faces to the incredible cast. In Dune: Part Two, Florence Pugh and Austin Butler will be seen as Princess Irulan and Harkonnen heir Feyd-Rautha, respectively.

During the Culture Summit in Abu Dhabi this year, the Abu Dhabi film commissioner, Hans Fraikin, discussed with Sam Kozhaya, the producer of Dune, in the panel “Dune: The Creation of a Blockbuster Film Franchise.” It was understood that Kozhaya estimates 700 to 800 jobs to be created as a result of the film shooting in Abu Dhabi. This will be done by increasing the number of the local crew participating in the project. Legendary Films has also announced that it will be hiring five interns from the UAE and conducting seminars in Abu Dhabi for aspiring filmmakers and film technicians in the country.

Denis Villeneuve expressed his intention to return to the Arab land in a statement: “We look forward to returning to the majestic sand dunes of Abu Dhabi and bringing Arrakis to life for Dune: Part Two.” The movie is expected to hit the screens on the 3rd of November, 2023.
