If you’re a Shrek fan reading this article then we don’t want to get you too excited, but Eddie Murphy is ready to play Donkey in a Shrek 5.
Shrek and Donkey on the road again
In 2001, Shrek was released worldwide as the latest animated DreamWorks animated film. The fantasy film with bursts of comedy featured Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, and John Lithgow as Lord Farquaad, just to name a few. The film had broken records generating more than $420 million in revenue for DreamWorks on DVD and VHS, selling more than 21 million copies of the 23 million shopping by January 2022. Globally, more than 10 million Shrek DVDs have been sold by that point.
Shrek 2 was then released in 2004, Shrek the Third in 2007, and Shrek Forever After in 2010. Although DreamWorks had named the final Shrek mindfully with the idea of completing the series, Eddie Murphy has sparked conversation in his latest interview on eTalk for the new film You People.
Donkey VS Puss in Boots
In his interview, Eddie said he would love to play Donkey again and would jump at the chance in “2 seconds.” He also said that he is “sitting and ready” and that they should have created a Donkey movie before Puss in Boots as Donkey is “funnier” than Puss in Boots. “I love Donkey. You know, they did Puss in Boots movies. I was like, ‘They should have did a Donkey movie. Donkey is funnier than Puss in Boots.’ I mean, I love Puss in Boots, but he ain’t as funny as the Donkey,” Murphy joked.

Antonio Banderas plays Puss in Boots
Spanish Actor Antonio Banderas who plays the infamous Puss in Boots first appeared in Shrek 2 and since then created his own spinoff. The character was originally written as a parody of Banderas’s Zorro which was released in 1998. Although nothing has been said about a Shrek 5, newsweek.com did say the “fifth Shrek movie is still in the works.”
