If you’ve got Simon Cowell impressed, there isn’t a happier milestone to be crossed. The Lebanese dance company, Mayyas Dance Crew, took the $1 million prize money home this Wednesday, and we could not be more excited. With the hard-to-impress judge commenting, “Every single one of us in this room, I promise you, are going to remember this moment”, the performers contribute to what is one of the most exciting moments of the season. The dancing stars competed with 10 other finalists to win the 17th season of America’s Got Talent title.
Judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Sofia Vergara, were taken aback by the performance, giving the artists a standing ovation after the performance. The dancers performed with fellow competitor Kristy Sellars for the grand finale.
Who are the Mayyas?
Founded and choreographed by Nadim Cherfan, the Mayyas Dance Crew is a Beirut-based female dance crew that won the 6th season of Arab’s Got Talent in 2019. They also went on to participate in British’s Got Talent: The Champions the same year. The talented lot have successfully made it from Beirut to screens across the globe.
Cherfan walked into the world of dance and performances at the young age of 14, taking classes in different parts of the world. The group was formed from a class of 200 students. Cherfan’s team made it to the Arab’s Got Talent final with the help of Lebanese singer and celebrity Najwa Karam, awarding them the golden buzzer.
These talented women play a huge role in representing middle-eastern women on international platforms and pave the way for women’s empowerment. The team won the golden buzzer from Sofia Vergara, and she was one of the first to post her congratulations on Twitter.
Other influencers including Rita Dahda, Ahlam Alshamsi, Nadine Nassib Njeim, and Elie Rustom took to Instagram to show their support for the amazing dance crew.
What’s next for these talented performers?
With their grand prize of $1 million and the opportunity to headline the “America’s Got Talent” Las Vegas Live show, Mayyas Dance Crew have just begun their journey. The dancers have established that they are here to conquer with every amazing performance leading up to the final show. We can’t wait to see what else they have in store for us. Maybe another competition?
