The MTV and Roblox collaboration is a foray by MTV into the gaming world to offer its viewers an exciting experience. As MTV brings in a new category to recognise performances done on the metaverse, it aims to diversify the platform. This could possibly be to bring more viewers to the channel by targeting the Roblox demographic.
MTV is part of Paramount Media Networks and their venture into the metaverse is to better understand and learn the platform. Roblox is extremely popular among the younger audience and the collaboration is expected to pique their interest.
What is the Collaboration All About?
MTV launched the first game on the platform on August 12th and will continue to release features until the Awards on the 28th. The collaboration is likely to promote metaverse performances of artists.
Users will be able to collect MTV logo tokens that can be used to vote for their favourite artists in the metaverse category. The VMA metaverse experience will bring together people from all over the world on one platform.
Who are nominated in the Metaverse Category?
Metaverse performances have been around for a while since Marshmello’s concert in-game. This opens opportunities for music artists to express themselves in multiple different ways. In the metaverse, the artists can reach more people than in a real-life concert.
The VMAs announced Charli XCX, Twenty One Pilots, Blackpink, BTS, Ariana Grande, and Justin Bieber as nominees for the best metaverse performance category. The performances were staged on multiple platforms including Roblox, Fortnite, and Minecraft. This is the first time the VMAs are introducing this category.
MTV has collaborated with Fortnite before but it will be the first time they are pairing up with Roblox. The Roblox MTV VMA experience is effectively promoting the Awards night through their collab.’
