The man to blame for being a key role in helping Meta earn more than 300 million users on the mother company’s array of social media platforms, Ajit Mohan has just announced his resignation as head of Meta India, to join rival platform Snapchat to increase its market reach.
After 4 years of working for the big tech giant, Mohan parted ways as he becomes the sole regional director of the entire head of Asia-Pacific operations to face new challenges by going up against his previous company’s exceedingly well market dominance.
Throughout the course of Mohan’s leadership, Meta has overcome tough terrain as they were able to navigate external government pressures, hate speech, and regional indifferences throughout communities. It comes as no surprise that his work contributed to Meta’s impeccable regional relevancy and was snapped up by one of their biggest market competitors for Snapchat to have a piece of the Asia-Pacific pie, which dominates more than 70% of all Indian households.

In a LinkedIn post, Mohan confirmed the development and said:
“After almost 4 years leading Meta (Facebook) in India, I am stepping down from my role.
“I am grateful to the company for the amazing opportunity to lead its efforts in one of its most important countries and I am absolutely proud of the work the team and I have done to create an impact for people, creators, and businesses around the country.
“When I took on this role, my objective was to build a team and a company that would be a valuable ally to India and plays a useful role in fuelling its economic and social transformation. This is exactly what we have managed to do in the last four years.
“Am also excited to share that I am going to lead the Asia Pacific region for Snap and be a part of the company’s executive team. Can’t wait to get started!”
Hoping to change the competitive landscape, Ajit Mohan will be a member of Snap’s executive team, reporting to its chief operating officer Jerry Hunter. Whereas all regional sales teams, both China and India, will be managed and supervised under Mohan’s leadership.
