Who Is Kendrick Lamar?
Kendrick is one of the most popular and influential American rappers of the decade. Raised in Compton, California, he began rapping as a teenager and after releasing some music in an album titled Section.80, he found his big break with Dr. Dre’s record label Aftermath Entertainment.
Not long after that his first studio album in 2012 titled ‘Good Kid, m.A.A.d. City’ which quickly grew in popularity across the world. Singles such as ‘B****, Don’t Kill My Vibe’, ‘Money Trees’, and ‘Swimming Pools’ while one single ‘m.A.A.d. City’ blew up in Vine compilations.
His next album came in 2015, just three years later with all the more master pieces. Kendrick was able to challenge world ideas and speak for what he believes in through his music. ‘To Pimp a Butterfly’ was a global success with singles such as ‘King Kunta’ and ‘Alright’.
Come 2017, come ‘DAMN.’. This Grammy award winning incredible album pushed Kendrick to be one of the most popular artists in the world with singles like ‘HUMBLE’ sitting at #1on the charts for weeks at a time. The album also came along with more bangers such as ‘DNA’, ‘LOVE.’ and ‘LOYALTY’.
One year after the release of DAMN. came ‘Black Panther, The Album’ where Kendrick, with the help of the director of Black Panther, created the soundtrack for the film. This album includes songs by multiple artists that were written by Lamar. It includes singles such as ‘All The Stars’ and ‘King’s Dead’.
After DAMN. and The Black Panther Soundtrack rocked the charts, fans were highly anticipating Kendrick’s new music and what he was going to bring the the table next….. except he didn’t. Kendrick disappeared. Fans would continue to anticipate his return for 4 years.
All until the spring of 2022 when he dropped ‘Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers’. This beautifully crafted piece of work features many different artists including his cousin, rapper Baby Keem. In the first song of the album, ‘United in Grief’, he tells us that it has been 1855 Days since his last release. This album is a thought provoker with songs like ‘N95’, ‘Die Hard’ and my personal favorite, ‘We Cry Together’.
