After Kim Kardashian walked for the Balenciaga Haute Couture fashion show, it did spark the question of whether we want to see mega-influencers/celebrities on the runway.
The fashion industry is an evolution of its own with unique styles represented in different forms and presented to us on a catwalk. Fashion has always sparked creativity with people, brands, collaborations, art, music, and more, and therefore thinking of new ideas to show off a piece of apparel is more about thinking outside of the box.
We have seen influencer marketing work, but is it fair to see influencers on stage when models do it for their everyday work. Celebrities like Kendal Jenner who has grown up as a supermodel already in the industry fair. But her sister Kim Kardashian who has her own brand, done multiple different campaigns walks the runway, is it spectacular to see or unfair?
Other celebrities who are seen on the runway are Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus, Mike Edwards, and many more over time. It is not only a celebrity walking the runway, but how they’re walking. As a trained model, you hold yourself a certain way as well as walk a certain way.
Again, using the sisters as an example, you can see the difference in how Kim K walks the runway compared to Kendal. If celebrities and influencers want to be models, then like every job, they should learn how to walk the runway.
