How to grow your Instagram following

Many people scroll through their Instagram profile wanting to improve their content, comparing it to others, and are unsure of how to make it better. If you feel like you are one of those people then don’t worry, we have put together a few simple steps to help you get back into the right direction and make your content amazing!

1. Do not compare yourself to others

Stop comparing your content to everyone else as it won’t feel original and unique to yourself in addition to your followers. You want people to follow you on social media for who you are, not because it may be a copy of someone else’s profile!

2. Find a niche

You may have heard this one before, but it is important to find your niche, everyone has one! Sit down with a pen and paper (or notes on your phone), and write a list of everything you are interested in. It maybe that you love fashion and beauty – that’s your niche! Or if you love travelling and eating then you can do a combination. Be tight and particular about what you are interested in and what you are going to post as that is the base of your Instagram content.

3. Engage with your audience

This is an important point as asking questions or putting up polls on your story as well as commenting back on posts is important for engagement. From a personal experience, I have unfollowed accounts who do not engage with others or like and comment back to comments. If someone feels inspired by you, take some time to reply back. You can even ask them questions on what they would like to see on your profile to help tightening your niche!

4. Check your insights

Ensure you have a professional business account that is open for everyone to see in order to check your insights. Your insights will allow you to understand your engagement rate, when the best time is to post, and most importantly, who your audience is. By checking this function on a daily or weekly basis, you will begin to understand which posts are working and those that aren’t. In the beginning it’s trial and error, but the more you check, the more you know for next time!

5. Collaborate

Is there a brand you love and want to share with the rest of the world? Why not message them for a collaboration! Brands are always looking for people to work with and share their ethos across social media. According to statistics by WebsiteBuilder, 56% of the US and UK marketers work with micro-influencers on Instagram because they’re cost-effective then top-tier talent. This statement provides evidence that influencer marketing works whether you’re a micro or mega talent. Contact your favourite brands and see if they would like you to promote their product in exchange for real reviews!

6. Be consistent

Once you have understood your niche, engaged with your audience, checked your insights and started a few collaborations, remember to post constantly. A recent post by Later confirms that, the more you post on Instagram per week, the greater your overall reach will be. Instagrammers like to see content continuously and by posting frequently with good quality and relevant posts, you will begin to see an increase in reach and following monthly.
