If you’re someone like me, you most likely enjoy working and communicating your ideas with your colleagues. But sometimes it’s hard to make them understand your concept through email and virtually, there is always a gap for miscommunication. So what to avoid? Sounding passive aggressive.

Emails are now a bigger affair than before. Ever since COVID-19 hit, and all countries moved from physical offices to working off of their dining table – we send 3 emails daily on a minimum. Take a look at 7 phrases not to use in an email, suggested by Leadership expert Erica Dhawan.

  • Per my last email…
  • For future reference…
  • Just to be sure we’re on the same page…
  • Going forward…
  • That isn’t your decision
  • You don’t have the authority to do that
  • Please send this over ASAP
  • I am quite shocked at your unprofessionalism
  • But,

To be on the safer side, pre-assume that people misunderstand the tone of your message. You might have intended for your message to elicit a positive reaction – however, your intentions are could be misunderstood.

Reread your message and say to yourself, “Could the tone of this message be misinterpreted?”. If so, fix it.
