Twitch Record

The 21-year-old streamer, Kai Cenat has broken the record for attracting the most Twitch streamers, amassing over 300,000 subscribers.

On February 1st, Cenat launched a “Subathon” where he vowed to stream 24 hours a day, for 30 days straight non-stop. The 30-day run included chatting with fans, gaming, celebrity guests and interviewing guests, and even sleeping, on camera.

The popular YouTuber officially overtook former Twitch record holder Ludwig Ahgren with this new feat.

Twitch is a live streaming platform, where people typically play video games while chatting with viewers. Ludwig previously held the record for the most Twitch subscribers, hitting a peak of 283,000 viewers during a non-stop stream in April 2021.

Two years later, Cenat was able to break Ludwig’s record with his own subscription marathon- “Subathon”  – a stream with a countdown timer that is extended every time someone subscribes to the channel.

Who is Kai Cenat?

Kai Cenat is an American live streamer and YouTuber, best known for his live streams on Twitch and his comedy-based content posted on Youtube. Born on December 16, 2001, in New York City, he originally aspired to be a comedian and posted short-form content on Facebook and Instagram during middle and high school.

Later on, uploaded his first YouTube video on January 13, 2018, and began making videos surrounding pranks and challenges. On September 21, 2019, he first went viral recording prank videos such as extreme ding-dong ditching while in college.

In 2022, Cenat began including celebrity guests on his streams, including Bobby Shmurda in April, Lil Baby in October, and 21 Savage in November, who helped him receive his highest viewership at the time with 283,245 concurrent viewers at its peak.

Cenat was nominated for the 12th Streamy Awards in the “Streamer of the Year” and “Breakout Streamer” categories, winning the former in December. In November 2022, he had a guest appearance in Lil Uzi Vert’s music video for “Just Wanna Rock”.

Subathon

The record-breaking streamer began his “Subathon” at the start of February in congruence with the beginning of Black History Month in the US. Over the month he has entertained viewers with guests including comedian Reggie Brown, a Barack Obama impersonator, and many more. On the 22nd of February, he became the first African-American streamer to reach 200,000 Twitch subscribers. A few days later he hit 300,000 subscribers, breaking a historical record on the Amazon-owned streaming platform. Cenat mentioned that amassing the 300,00 subscribers was the “hardest thing he ever did.”

“Stop saying ‘I did it’ – we did it,” he said, as the total subscriber count ticked over 300,000. “On the last day of Black History Month, we broke 300,000! “And I’m so happy I did it with the people around me. I couldn’t have chosen anybody else to do this with,” he added.

Cenat’s ongoing stream may still gain a few additional subscribers, but his Subathon will come to an end immediately as he vowed it would last no longer than 30 days. It is currently unclear whether he plans to take a short break from the platform before returning to regular Twitch streams.
