TikTok is testing 15-minute uploads

TikTok is testing a new feature that allows users to upload videos up to 15 minutes long. This is a significant increase from the current limit of 10 minutes. The new feature is currently being tested in select regions with a limited group of users, but it is unclear when it will be rolled out to everyone.

The expanded video length will give creators more time and flexibility to create content. For example, they can now create longer cooking recipes, beauty tutorials, education content, and comedy sketches. In the past, creators had to split their longer videos into multiple parts, which could be inconvenient for viewers.

The change also puts the short-form video application in more direct competition with YouTube. YouTube is known for its long-form video content, and TikTok is now trying to attract more long-form video creators. In recent years, the lines between the short-form application and YouTube have blurred, as both platforms have adopted features from the other.

YouTube Create is an editing app made for mobile creators to easily edit and add effects to Shorts, a feature of YouTube that acts similarly to TikTok’s short-form video feed.

It is likely that not everyone will welcome the new video time limit. TikTok is known for its short and entertaining videos, so that is what most people go to the platform for.

The company is also aware that not everyone has an appetite for long videos. Most recently, they launched a feature that lets users fast-forward videos by holding down the right side of the screen.

The social media platform did not say if or when it plans to roll out the change to all users across regions.
