Top 10 most used emojis

Emojis are a big part of the online experience, so there’s no way we can avoid commemorating them. According to Emojipedia − the preeminent source for emoji meanings and news −these are the top 10 most used emojis of 2023 so far:

10. Smiling face with hearts 🥰

This one has a yellow face with smiling eyes, a closed smile, and hearts floating all around his head. It expresses genuine affection and happiness.

9. Smiling face with smiling eyes 😊

An emoji that has become a way to express passive-aggressiveness due to its broad, closed smile and closed eyes, it’s very popular among users on social media platforms when being sarcastic.

8. Fire 🔥

The fire sign is used so often, the only surprise is why it’s only number 8 on the list. It’s used metaphorically to express things that are ‘lit’, i.e. good. On Snapchat, the emoji means two users have a snap streak together on the app.

7. Sparkles ✨

These clusters of stars are everyone’s favorite on any social media platform and usually indicate positive sentiments such as beauty and even gratitude. It’s a nice symbol to use to express style and luxury, too.

6. Smiling face with heart-eyes 😍

This one has a yellow face with an open smile and hearts for eyes. It only expresses love and adoration someone may have for a thing or a person. It even has a cat face variant that has proved to be popular among users.

5. Loudly crying face 😭

This iconic yellow face with a widely opened mouth and heavy streams of tears has become our 2023 mood so far. While it started out as a face that is crying, it became better known for being used as a laughing loudly face.

4. Folded hands 🙏

This comes as a big surprise to me, and while some people are still unaware of what it really means, some use it as a sign of thankfulness, while some might use it as praying, but most rarely as a gesture for high fives.

3. Red Heart ❤️

This classic red love heart is used to express love and romance to others. On Snapchat, this heart is displayed next to a friend’s name after talking to them the most more the past month.

2. Rolling on the floor laughing 🤣

This one has x-shaped eyes and has been taken from the internet acronym ‘RFOLF’, which stands for ‘Rolling on the floor’ from laughter. It’s used only when something is extremely funny, which is why it makes this list at number 2.

1. Face of tears joy 😂

Of course, this is everyone’s most used favorite pictograph. It is most commonly used for funny instances that really make you laugh out loud.

Upcoming Emojis?

The Unicode Consortium has approved the upcoming pictographs, meaning that devices will be getting new ones in the future, featuring brown mushrooms, limes, phoenixes, people in wheelchairs, and headshakes.

There’s still some time for the new emojis to be released, but we’re sure that they won’t ever compete with this top 10 list.
