It’s exciting times for avid Snapchat fans!

Snapchat is investigating a future prospective monetization route through a new subscription service called ‘Snapchat+,’ providing users with access to a variety of exclusive and innovative app features and tools.

What Snapchat+ Subscribe offers

The app researcher, Alessandro Paluzzi, shared an example of what the various subscription plans look like.

As of currently, it does appear that the subscribtion is to be coming out with variable payment options and a free, one-week trial option, allowing users to sample out what the service has to offer.

In more detail a Snapchat+ account holder will be able to do the following:

  • Have exclusive Snapchat icons.
  • A new profile sticker indicating that you are a Snapchat+ user.
  • Additional data insights, such as the ability to see your friends’ location history (over the last 24 hours) and information on who has rewatched your Story, are available.
  • The ability to designate a user in the app as “your #1 best friend.”

The platform themselves have released a statement, regarding this new upgrade:

“We’re doing early internal testing of Snapchat+, a new subscription service for Snapchatters. We’re excited about the potential to share exclusive, experimental, and pre-release features with our subscribers, and learn more about how we can best serve our community.”

Moreover, it would be Snapchat’s first subscription product, designed to allow users to share content stories, play online games and also navigate through a TikTok-like feature called Spotlight.

The platform has grown immensely, allowing people to stay closely connected and provides an opportunity for creators and influencers to share parts of their daily lives.

As of 2022, Snapchat has 332 million daily active users worldwide. Noting that this is an increase from the third quarter in 2021, which had 306 million.

It will be insightful to see if the new subscription plan does in fact improve the experience for users who opt to pay for it and whether or not it will generate a lot of interest when it is eventually available.
