Streetwear has been seen all around town this week for NYFW. As it comes to an end and we move on to see what London would bring to the table, we take the time to pay homage to the city which gave birth to street style. A trend that we know has been trickling up the fashion chain since the 80s, there is no place like New York to spot the biggest multi-cultural mixes of different styles to create the ultimate street look.
For the last 20 years, exposure to men’s fashion has been slowly picking up after many years of industry neglect and afterthoughts to women’s fashion. Although women are in full swing with the know-how on where to find the best upcoming brands, how to shop online, and what influencers to look out for trends, men just aren’t quite there yet.
But no worries, as we have compiled the best list of streetwear brands to shop from
Maybe one of New York’s most popular niche brands for street style, located in Queens. Aimé Leon Dore is worldly known for their collaboration with New Balance 550 that sent sneakerheads, fashion enthusiast, and trend followers into shopping sprees. However, most people don’t know the brand for their fashion and lifestyle items that are far superior and unique from any of their collaborative work, which has been seen on style influencers such as ASAP Rocky, Justin Bieber, Big Sean, Emily Ratajkowski, and Bella Hadid.
Established in 2014 by Teddy Santis, ADL is best known for its simple yet distinctive ready-to-wear collections that breathe a new spirit of contemporary street fashion. The New York-based brand offers its take on an eclectic mix of lifestyles, sportswear, and tailored apparel that’s inspired by classic hip hop and basketball designs of Teddy Santis’s experiences growing up between Queens and Greece in the 1990s.
The Istanbul-lifestyle brand, Les Benjamins founded in 2011 by Bünyamin Aydin, sets the stage for Middle Eastern streetwear that embodies a contemporary take on the perspective of the East. A country situated in between Europe and the Middle East, the cultural mix reflects perfectly the brand’s simple yet graphic-oriented designs both suited to European styles ranging from cuts, construction, and minimalism to Arabic calligraphy, graphics, and bold royal blues that are usually associated with Mosques in Turkey. Focused on easy basics Les Benjamins has been seen on influencers such as rapper Quavo Huncho and Pharell Williams.
Palace Skateboards is a London-based skateboarding and clothing brand established in 2009. The brand was founded by Levent Tanju and his skate team, the Palace Wayward Boys Choir, and Gareth Skewis. The brand focuses on skatewear with heavy 1990s and pop culture influences but has been seen over the past few years gaining a lot of momentum from people wearing the brand outside of the skateboard community. The streetwear brand has been seen by rappers such as Kanye, Jay Z, and Drake.
Rhude is a streetwear brand founded by Rhuigi Villaseñor in 2015, as a design venture born out of Los Angeles. Renowned for balancing luxury techniques with streetwear elements that are showcased as ready-to-wear collections, Rhude cleverly combines American iconography with nostalgic references and a visual commentary on Los Angeles style and the culture itself. Still, a very young and upcoming brand, the streetwear garments have already been seen on style influencers such as Post Malone, Ian Connor, Odell Beckham Jr., Bella Hadid, and The Weeknd
