Model Vivan Hoorn tackles the new “skinny trend” that is taking over the fashion industry

Are you seeing more skinny models & influencers online? They may be influenced by the new size 0 trend that is creeping back up.

The fashion industry has come a long way over the years and evolved into a platform where millions can be part of the ever-growing movement. Whether it be the colours, designs, patterns, models, makeup artists, styles, and trends, there is a section or sector that is available for everyone.

However, one trend that was seen as quite unhealthy, was the overuse of skinny, or size 0, models. Victoria’s Secret was one of the brands that underwent scrutiny over the use of skinny models on their famous catwalk shows. This all changed in 2020 when they used a plus-size model for the first time on the runway which also impacted other brands to be more diverse in influencers and models who were promoting their work to look and feel healthy rather than underweight or overweight.

Vivan Hoorn joined the UK TV show This Morning and was interviewed by hosts Holly and Phillip on the new size 0 trend that is slowly creeping back into the fashion industry.

Vivan was a victim of herself when it came to how a model should look. She told the presenters I am a very sensitive person and was down for a very long time when I was younger. I was so done with looking at my pictures and obsessing over what I looked like – I just wanted to enjoy life. She observed that commercial brands use diversity when it comes to hiring models or influencers, however, she noted that it “would be nice to see more diversity on the catwalk.”

Although Viven felt insecure, she managed to help herself feel the confidence she needed to live a healthy life. “There is no quick-fix, you have to work harder for positive thoughts. Perk yourself up and treat yourself like your best friend.”

The trend that would slowly take over our social media feeds and through brand campaigns is being stopped by plus-size influencers and models. They are the voices of those who need it and who want to be involved but are being pushed out by unhealthy propaganda.

If you are worried about your weight or working on a diet, make sure you talk to someone or get your diet plan checked over by a professional dietician so you are gaining the correct and healthy weight.
