Instagram has announced a set of new features designed to bring people closer together and make interactions on the platform more personal and engaging.
Reposts to Share Inspiring Content
Users can now repost public Reels and feed posts directly to their followers. The reposted content appears with full credit to the original creator and can be viewed in a new Reposts tab on the user’s profile. This feature makes it easier for people to reshare moments and ideas that resonate with them.
Instagram Map for Trusted Location Sharing
Instagram has launched the Instagram Map, an optional feature allowing users to share their last active location with selected groups such as mutual followers or close friends. Location updates happen only when the app is opened or resumed. Content tagged with a location will appear on the map for up to twenty-four hours. The feature is off by default and includes parental supervision settings for teen accounts.
Friends Tab in Reels to Discover What Friends Enjoy
A new Friends tab within Reels showcases the videos that friends have liked, commented on, created, or reposted. This feature provides a window into what friends are enjoying on the platform. Users have full control over their activity visibility and can also mute updates from specific accounts.

A Shift Towards a More Social Experience
Instagram says these updates are part of its vision to create a space that focuses on connection as much as entertainment. The platform is evolving to encourage shared experiences, whether through reposted content, location-based interactions, or discovery of friends’ activity.
Commitment to Privacy and Control
All new features have been developed with privacy in mind. Location sharing is optional and customizable, while activity visibility can be adjusted at any time. These measures ensure that users maintain control over what they share and with whom.
