Everything You Need to Know About #VSCOGirls
But don’t be mistaken, VSCO girls do not have anything related to the popular photo-editing app that makes all your pictures look Instagram-worthy.
The term is being being used to describe a new subculture of social media users and the tag #VSCOgirls has taken social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram by storm.
VSCO girls are used to describe a new trend that teens have started implementing that incorporate beachy-style and “relatable” characteristics. Like wanting to “Save The Turtles” because Twitter has made it a trend to care about climate change instead of actually researching how to properly care for the environment.
According to Refinery29 ". . . the average VSCO girl is a devoted student and user of the VSCO photo editing app, which became popular for its sunny, faded, SoCal-inspired photo filters. VSCO has about 20 million active weekly users."
(The popular photo-editing app does not take credit for the social media craze.)
YouTube sensation and content creators Emma Chamberlain (@emmachamberlain) could be best described as the ultimate #VSCOgirl (although we're sure she genuinely cares about environmental issues.)
Want to be a #VSCOGirl? We've rounded up a sort of "starter pack" list just in case you want to emulate their style.
Want to suddenly start caring about the environment but only making the smallest and cutest looking impact? Get yourself a hydroflask (a.k.a. an overpriced stainless steel reusable water bottle, because it’s not cool to use plastic bottles anymore.)
VSCO girls care about the environment - but only when it's trendy and convenient, of course.
The perfectly adorable hair tie that comes in 100s of shades and never actually used to tie hair. Instead wear it on your wrist, it’s fashion!
Long gone are the days where oversized t-shirts are used to hide food bellies and bloating days. Instead they’re now cute and comfortable, and of course they have to be worn with your nicest basic pair of cycling shorts!
No time for a vacation? No worries! Instead buy yourself a seashell necklace and get that beachy vacation vibe without having to ever step foot in the sea for the next year.
To wrap it all up, a nice thick shiny layer of lipgloss gets you that perfect 90s high school look. You can be part of the mean girls all the time now. Trip to Claire’s anyone?
