Did you WhatsApp, Facebook and/or Instagram unexpectedly stop working earlier this week? Well, you certainly weren’t alone.
On Sunday Facebook-owned apps (including WhatsApp and Instagram) went down around the world for over two hours.
Thousands of people were unable to communicate with their family, friends and colleagues, as the biggest messaging and social media platforms unexpectedly went offline for a few hours.
Digital “weatherman” website Downdetector reported outages across Europe.
According to The Verge “…the outages appear to have started at around 6:30 AM ET this morning and have come just a month after Facebook experienced its worst outage ever.”
Fortunately the problem was resolved within a few hours, however, Facebook Inc. has yet to comment on the cause of the outage.
As always in times of digital despair, users took to Twitter to vent their frustrations…

The cause of the outage is still unknown. Some netizens speculate it could be due to server issues.
Facebook did release a statement to a few media outlets, apologizing for the trouble some users experienced when connecting to the apps.
“The issue has since been resolved; we’re sorry for any inconvenience,” a spokesperson said in an email to Bloomberg.
