“Clips” could soon be rolled out very soon

Instagram is Copying TikTok's Signature Feature

First Snapchat, now TikTok.

Social networking giant Facebook is known for copying any technology, apps or features it can’t acquire – and that includes some of the most well-known features of the hottest new social media platform that’s a big hit with Gen-Zers.

Facebook-owned Instagram may soon roll out a new Stories camera mode feature called “Clips,” which looks very similar to TikTok’s signature features.

Reverse-engineering mastermind Jane Manchun Wong (@wongmjane) uncovered the test (and potential new feature) yesterday. She shared her findings with the Internet both on her blog and Twitter account. Apparently the image- and Story-sharing platform has been working on Clips for “quite some time now.”

According to Wong’s blog “. . . just like TikTok, ‘Clips’ allows users to record segments of videos into a single video Story. Just like TikTok, users can overlay music on clips. Just like TikTok, users can adjust the speed and timer of each video clips.”

Within her blog post, Wong states she is far from surprised the social networking giant is looking at “cloning” a popular feature from another app and rolling it out within one of its own.

“This is unsurprising because TikTok is a rising star in the social media space, and Instagram/Facebook has shown the pattern of cloning features from competitors . . . Experimental features like this could come and go. The time it takes to develop and release one varies.”

Guess we’ll just have to keep an eye on our Insta-Stories, and wait and see if “Clips” will be rolled out any time soon.
