Times are changing for Facebook.
The social networking platform is removing its Discover tab from Facebook Messenger in order to make its design even simpler and slicker.
The design update was announced in August 2019, yet TechCrunch recently reported that the changes of designs will be implemented in the coming week, according to The Verge.
Back in 2018, there was a substantially large redesign in Messenger, so Facebook promised to make the application simpler and less cluttered, which was a direct result of the “do-everything design philosophy” that Messenger had followed under Chief David Marcus.
After moving under new leadership, the Facebook Messenger application’s core goal has shifted to becoming a functional messaging application. As the former head of product and Messenger VP Stan Chudnovsky has taken charge and brought back the core role of messenger, for part of this process has led to the removal of all business-oriented aspects of the application, according to The Verge. The business-oriented features that have been removed weren’t serving users and were only there to help promote Messenger as a text-based customer service app.
The Discover tab, which is found on the far right in the Messenger application is where users used to find business accounts – some were operated by AI bots as a way to spread and push (unsuccessfully) the use of AI tech in customer service.

This tab had also included Facebook Instant Games, which was a way for Facebook to try and bring back its web-based gaming platform onto mobiles, however, Instant Games still exist on the web and in Facebook’s main application. Instant Games and the AI bots will be removed in the newest design update for Facebook Messenger, according to The Verge.
In this new design a “People” section will be included and promoted in order to allow users to see large squares dedicated to their friends who have recently updated their Facebook Stories. This new design will also include a contact list which will be organized in a way to bring your most used contacts who are actively online to the top. This new design would make Messenger easier to navigate and a lot cleaner, according to The Verge.
