Twitter owner Elon Musk and CEO Linda Yaccarino, have officially announced changing the name of the app from Twitter to ‘X’, as a move to introduce to the world their broader vision for an ‘everything app’.
By renaming the platform and bringing a new ‘X’ logo, Musk’s intention is to bring an interactive component into users’ lives by facilitating a much broader range of functionalities within the same app.

Twitter would now be ‘X’, an everything app
With a change of ownership and a lot many new features introduced in the past few months, Twitter is gearing up for rebranding itself now. Elon has hinted at replacing the familiar blue bird logo with a new symbol, probably something that resembles his all-time favorite “X.”
The interim X which was initially under preview has already been approved, and Musk is now headed for a rebranding, implementing minor changes to the app like changing the app’s logo, and the app’s default color to be altered from blue to black.

He also hinted at changing the other traditional names like tweets would no longer be called such, they’ll be called an ‘X’. But the primary question remains, why would a company let go of its years of brand equity when there was no immediate need for any such change?
We all know that there was no negative association with the brand name that needed distancing, then why such a step? To understand the need for such a drastic step, let’s know more about Musk’s ‘X’.
History of Elon Musk’s ‘X’
The ‘X’ letter has been playing a major role in Musk’s life from the beginning, it has been a part of his great plan since the late 90s, when he first started off and created a name for himself in online payments and the digital finance world.
Musk had incorporated a payments company, and he envisioned would it become ‘X.com’, a new platform that would facilitate not only instant, fee-free payments, but also loans, and other banking elements, all in one simplified, streamlined offering.
His company then merged with PayPal, however, he had some disagreements with the new partners who didn’t agree with his X concept. Elon eventually had to abandon his plan of making an everything app at that time, took his exit from the company, and moved into other ventures.
Even after leaving the venture, the idea, and name ‘X’, stayed with him, and Musk was convinced that he can create a disruptive, game-changing app, which would use payments as its backbone to then facilitate all sorts of transactional activity, in addition to social media and entertainment elements.
Musk claimed while buying Twitter that his move was ‘an accelerant to X’, and he is determined to create an everything app but despite his long-standing hopes and getting all the criticism, he reiterated that actually making X happen is not going to be easy.
Claiming that every other social platform has already tried the same and had failed in some way or the other. Meta, for instance, has been working to make in-stream payments a thing for years now, but its success has been limited.
The biggest challenge that everyone has encountered, is that the regulatory bodies are not overly keen to enable a payments system that could side-step existing banking systems. Another reason could be that Western users have shown resistance or are hesitant to actually make payments, and buy products, within social apps.
What Linda Yaccarino has to say?
The new CEO of Twitter, Linda believes in Elon Musk’s idea of having an everything app. She agrees that X will be the future state of unlimited interactivity centered on audio, video, messaging, payments/banking, and creating a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities. AI-powered ‘X’ will connect us all in ways we’re just beginning to imagine.
According to Linda Yaccarino, “For years, fans and critics alike have pushed Twitter to dream bigger, innovate faster, and fulfill our great potential. X will do that and more. We’ve already started to see X take shape over the past 8 months through our rapid feature launches, but we’re just getting.”

According to the team, there’s absolutely no limit to this transformation of Twitter to ‘X’. X will become the one and only platform for users, that will aim to deliver everything.
Elon says that the Twitter bird logo will be blowtorched off the HQ building in San Francisco and the logo really will be changed to ‘X’ soon.

The official Twitter account has now rebranded to X. Tweeps’ affiliate badges (including Elon Musk’s badge) are starting to switch over to the new logo too. According to Linda Yaccarino, X/Twitter will work closely with xAI and use its tools to improve the platform. This could add to hints and speculation that X will make use of AI tools developed by Elon’s new company.
Also, the links to profiles are now working with the ‘X’ domain.
