Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, was on hand to accept the honor on behalf of her late mother, who passed away in December 2016 at the age of 60. Lourd, who also starred alongside Fisher in the latest Star Wars trilogy, along with former costars Harrison Ford and Mark Hammil shared heartfelt notes, paying tribute to her legacy.

Fisher’s star is located outside the historic TCL Chinese Theatre, where she first debuted as Princess Leia in the original Star Wars film in 1977. Her career spanned over four decades and included numerous film, television, and stage performances, but she will always be best remembered for her iconic portrayal of the fearless and independent princess who captured the hearts of millions.

Lourd delivered a heartfelt speech at the Walk of Fame ceremony in Fisher’s honor before sprinkling glitter on it to celebrate.

Fisher’s star is the 2,754th to be added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and the first to be awarded on Star Wars Day. The ceremony was attended by hundreds of fans, many of whom were dressed in Star Wars costumes and carrying lightsabers.

In addition to Fisher’s star, the day was also marked by numerous other Star Wars celebrations around the world, including fan events, merchandise releases, and social media tributes.
