Netflix’s first Pakistani original
Pakistan’s debut Netflix original series has been announced. The series is an official adaptation of Farhat Ishtiaq’s bestselling 2013 Urdu-language novel “Jo Bachay Hain Sang Samait Lo”.
The story revolves around Sikandar, a Harvard law student who experiences a life-changing incident that makes him keep others at bay, and Liza, a talented artist who is bursting with life but has had a troubled past. They meet in Italy and are ready to start a life together, but the past slowly creeps up on them.
Pakistan’s most prominent stars Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, who previously starred together in “The Legend of Maula Jatt,” the highest-grossing Pakistani film of all time, will reunite in the Netflix original as lead cast alongside Sanam Saeed and Ahad Raza Mir. Hamza Ali Abbasi, Maya Ali, Iqra Aziz, and others will appear as supporting characters.
Dubai-based Momina Duraid Films is producing the series, with Duraid acting as showrunner. Duraid has previously been behind popular projects such as “Humsafar“, “Bin Roye”, and “Yaqeen Ka Safar” for Pakistani television, all of which were adaptations of Ishtiaq’s novels.
While a release date has not been set, an exclusive with Variety that the commission is by the Netflix Middle East and North Africa team. This means it will be available to stream in the UAE in no time.
