Ganesh Chaturthi, a major Hindu festival, starts today. Devotees spend 10 days commemorating the birth of Lord Ganesha. On this day, the idols of Ganesha are set up in people’s homes and publicly in elaborate pandals and are worshipped on a daily basis. Along with prayers and fasting, daily prasad (food and water offered to a deity during worship) is prepared, including delicacies such as modaka, believed to be Ganesha’s favorite sweet.

Shilpa Shetty brings home the Ganpati idol

Actress Shilpa Shetty began the festivities on Sunday as she brought home the Ganpati idol. The actress celebrates the 10-day festival with her family with a lot of fanfare every year. This year the Ganesh Chaturthi festival will begin on September 19 and continue until September 29.

“For me, it’s a celebration and it’s an opportunity to introduce this beautiful festival and our culture to my kids,” Shilpa spoke fondly in an interview about the festivities, “I think it’s a time where you can do stuff, have fun, and at the same time inculcate those beautiful values and share those experiences with your children.”

Shilpa was spotted along with her businessman husband Raj Kundra as the couple visited Lalbaug to bring home a beautiful Ganpati idol. The actress first prayed before revealing the Ganpati idol’s face to the waiting paparazzi.

While Shilpa Shetty was dressed in traditional attire, her husband was spotted wearing a hoodie with his face mask. He no longer makes public appearances without it.

Other projects

Shilpa Shetty was most recently seen promoting her latest drama film ‘Sukhee’ in a bold, pink saree. Her monochrome look is brought together and elevated by a modern accessory: gloves. It gives the ethnic look a more modern feel, and the result is stunning.

The film is about the title character, Sukhee, reliving the 17-year-old version of herself whilst going through a plethora of experiences in a span of just seven days. She comes out of the experience rekindled, reborn, and making a difficult transition in her life – from being a wife and a mother to being a woman again.

The movie is set to release in cinemas on September 22. It co-stars Kusha Kapila and Amit Sadh. Watch the trailer here:
