Tia Lee & her Comeback Song: Goodbye Princess
Born in Taipei, Tia Lee is a global C-pop singer, fashion icon, and film and television actress. To take control of her narrative and voice, Tia released her song entitled Goodbye Princess, representing the artist’s comeback, and hitting the music and online scene bigger, better, and stronger than ever before.
The song that was uploaded on Tia Lee’s YouTube channel with the official music video received an astonishing 67 million views in just two weeks. Even in the description, Tia explains the meaning behind the video direction telling everyone she is taking everyone into this futuristic world, which holds my last farewell to the past as we welcome the future together.
In November, the pre-release campaign of Goodbye Princess was launched. The legendary animation director Sunny Tang (Astroboy, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) jointly with award winning UK director Tony C. Miller directed a six-part series of 30-second animated episodes incorporating music and fashion videography that preceded the single’s music video release. The series achieved incredible global success, breaking all C-pop pre-release campaign records to accrue over 100 million cumulative views in less than a month. The animation challenges typical fairy-tale iconography while championing a female-driven future that celebrates women’s strength and independence. This message is central to Tia’s beliefs and she is delighted to have been able to use her artistic talent to encourage women to break down barriers and play a role in supporting female empowerment. C-pop genre is a movement that took Asia by storm and its next wave started with Tia Lee who has already proved her popularity with her music. Humbled by the success of Goodbye Princess, Tia also recently launched the #EmpowerHer campaign, where each view of the Goodbye Princess music video will help to empower women around the world. Each time a viewing benchmark is met, a donation will be made to the campaign. It will split up to a maximum of HKD3.8 million between the selected charities. Tia chose figure 3.8 million because of its significance as the date of International Women’s Day, March 8th.
