Project P92

Meta which owns Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp is looking to add a new platform to its roster. Platformer, the popular tech news outlet reported that Meta is working on a project codenamed P92.

It would be a decentralized, text-based social networking app where users would log in using their Instagram credentials. If this app were to launch, it would allow Meta to attract users from Elon Musk‘s Twitter, giving them an edge in the never-ending competition between social media corporations.

Twitter

Unlike other social media platforms, Twitter has been able to dominate the space it occupies. No other platform has been able to introduce features that compete and take market share from Twitter, placing the decentralized platform in a unique place in the market.

This makes Twitter a target for companies and entrepreneurs looking to dethrone the Elon Musk-owned platform from its throne. Mastodon and Jack Dorsey-backed Bluesky are two examples of newly formed platforms that compete with Twitter.

However, with Twitter‘s recent decline, it seems that Twitter users will start looking at alternatives, which will pave the way for next-generation replacements. With the commencement of P92, one of the biggest players in the market could have a piece of Twitter’s pie.
