Molly-Mae shared her incident at a Dubai beach club in a recent YouTube video.

It is a general consensus that filming anyone without their knowledge or consent in the UAE is strictly against the law.

Therefore, a lot of public venues will govern tight control over professional camera equiptment being taken in and used.

Molly-Mae finds herself in some trouble

The 23-year-old influencer and TV personality shared some of the recent highlights of her trip to Dubai, with boyfriend Tommy Fury in a YouTube video.

In the video, Molly-Mae shares with viewers a clip detailing the incident that took place in a Dubai beach club.

“Basically, we were leaving because we want to go to this Aqua Fun because obviously we’d leave a cool, vibey beach club to go to an aqua park because that just sums us up but, as we were leaving, Tommy just signed the cheque and I had my vlogging camera in my hand.

I wasn’t even vlogging, I just had it in my hand and one of the security guards came up to me and was like, “Why have you got that camera? You need to leave. Did they not check your bag when you came in here? How did you get in here with that camera?”

The Creative Director of PLT further went on to state:

So, that was interesting. But because we left and we didn’t really use any of the money that we spent for the bed because of that situation, they did give us a full refund which is good.

Molly-Mae was whisked away to celebrate her birthday in Dubai and had many other reasons to celebrate as well.

Her first book, Becoming Molly-Mae has become a #1 Sunday Times Best Selling Author.

Vlogging guidelines in the UAE

The UAE is filled with beautiful beaches and swanky hotels, so it’s only natural you will want to take videos and pictures to share online.

However, it is important to know the rules of certain places you go and the legal guidelines that you need to follow.

It’s important to take an approval before organising a photo shoot in the UAE and there are much tighter regulations in most venues for having professional camera gear.

Article 378 of the UAE Code states that taking pictures without obtaining permission will result in the camera being confiscated, recordings destroyed and photographers being charged a fine, or in some situations, being imprisoned.

EXCEPTIONS TO THE LAW FOR SHARING PICTURES IN THE UAE

You may share the picture:

  • If it has been captured at a public event
  • If the picture is of a known personality or a public figure
  • If the publication is permitted by the authorities in public interest
