Ah yes, the emoji aka the emoticon, those little symbols of expression the online chat world has grown so fond of. From the simple smiley face to exude happiness, the thumbs up for approval, as well as the hilariously specific gems, they make online communication so much simpler.

But the question is, do they really matter? Not in terms of expression, but for the blogger or business trying to up their engagement numbers.

If you guessed yes…you’re absolutely right. While it may be easy to gauge why that is the case from a common sense perspective, here’s a few cold hard stats so you don’t have to take our word for it.

A study by social media analytics platform Quintly earlier in the year revealed that post with emojis have a 17% higher interaction rate.  Might seem marginal, but in this competitive era, you probably know how valuable it is. 

The study also found that 56% of Instagram profiles use Emojis. So it’s about time you jump on that bandwagon.

They also revealed the most used emojis on Instagram.

But there’s more….A report by mobile marketing platform LeanPlum studied the impact of emojis in mobile communications. After split testing over 2.6 billion push notifications, they found that those with emojis received an open rate 85% greater than those without them.

So there you have it. While it certainly isn’t the answer to all your social media growth problems, if you’re the kind of person who struggles with emojis (80% of all males), maybe start making an active effort.
