What is this new AI trend?
Have you noticed your friends posting vibrant, whimsical, and imaginative portrait images on their Instagram? Overnight, hundreds if not thousands of people began posting a carousel of images on their social media pages transforming their pictures into fairies, warriors, elves, and other fictional artwork and paintings with an artistic stroke. But how are they doing it?
How to do it
The artificial intelligent app Lensa AI launched in 2018 however gained popularity in early December 2022 for its brand-new features. After carrying out consumer research and exploring what is popular on social media, the app has risen to fame with its ability to take a handful of pictures, giving you 50 portraits in different artistic and fantastical styles.
All you have to do is:
- Go onto your app store
- Download Lensa AI
- Upload portrait/selfie images to the app
- Watch your images transform
NOTE: There may be a payment involved depending on which option you choose.
What are people saying about it?
One Twitter user tweeted ‘These Lensa AL photos have really given me so much euphoria, they really capture and enhance your energy.’ Artist and DJ Priya Vunaki on Instagram wrote ‘The queer Indigenous urge to pay $3 to have your face digitally rendered by AI into multifaceted futuristic being of your dreams to you can pretend you live in some kind of affirming utopia’ complimented her pink and purple slideshow of portrait images.
Although some people have questioned the portraits saying it makes faces “thinner” triggering negative thoughts, others have embraced the images as something fun and different for their feed. The pictures have definitely captured people’s attention and added bold colours on influencers’ feeds. DJ Bliss is just one of the influencers who have used the app and created a carousel of images for everyone to be inspired by.
Make way for Artists
The app has given many people an appreciation for art as well as digital artists who transform images into these kinds of portraits. While some may feel their work has now been taken over by AI apps like Lensa, others are grateful to have people around the world experimenting with art and exploring more artwork, digital art, paintings, and more.
