Instagram is testing ways to control what you see on the platform

Here are the two new features Instagram is working on

We spend so much time on Instagram that it is only fair that we get to control the things we see. Meta is testing new ways to improve the user experience on the platform, and it would benefit users immensely. The new upgrades are in line with giving users more control over the different aspects of Instagram usage.

Here are the two new updates the app is working on to make the Instagram experience more fun and exciting.

Multi-select posts on your Explore

This feature will help you mark multiple posts on your Explore as ‘Not Interested’. In doing so, the user will be able to quickly hide the posts that they dislike and also notify the app to refrain from putting similar posts on their explore page.

The multi-select feature will make it easier for users to customise their feed and the content they come across on the platform. Once the new feature launches, individuals can easily hide uninteresting and dull posts. What could be better than a perfectly curated Instagram Explore page?

Tag words, phrases or emojis in captions and hashtags to hide

Instagram will also be releasing a feature that will help hide posts with captions or hashtags containing specific words, phrases or emojis. If you find a particular word or phrase offensive or unpleasant, you can block all suggested posts with it on your account.

This makes Instagram a much more pleasant and safe platform to interact with creators and their content. It is quite possible that you find specific content irritating or irrelevant and, therefore, would like to remove it from your Explore page.

Instagram explains, “Whether you’re seeing something that’s not relevant, or have moved on from something you used to like, you can use this feature to stop seeing content that’s not interesting to you”.

Instagram works to provide a safe and comfortable environment for all its users. Developing features that help them control what they see makes it a much more appealing and healthy app to spend time on. How cool would it be if you did not have to see any of the content that you are uninterested in? We guess that is what the platform is aiming for with these steps.

While these features are yet to be launched to the public, there are a few other ways to see more of what you want on the app! Here are some of the different ways in which you can control the content on your profile.

Select Favourites and Following

You can set a few accounts you follow as favourites, and you will be able to see just their posts. This makes it easier for you to catch up with the accounts that are most important to you. The Following feed will show you posts from all the people you follow in chronological order. And the best part is, it will not have any suggested posts.

Had a long day with a lot of content coming your way? Best to switch to the Favourites tab to avoid the information overload!

Use the Not Interested feature.

Whenever you come across posts you do not like, mark them as ‘Not Interested’. This will help the platform understand the kind of content you want and prevent it from popping up on your screen. You can also just tap X on the post.

Sensitivity Control

You will see less sensitive content by setting your sensitivity control to less. If you are someone who prefers to keep their feed free of such content, it would be best to check out this setting.

Instagram strives to be a platform that makes its users comfortable with the content they come across. There are so many controls in place to keep the Instagram account safe and healthy!
