Twitter Just Changed Its Logo To The Dogecoin Symbol

On Monday, without prior warning, Twitter‘s iconic bluebird Logo on the homepage was replaced with the “Doge” meme which is used as a symbol for the cryptocurrency Dogecoin.

Twitter’s owner Elon Musk has a history of using Twitter to make jokes and it now seems that the billionaire entrepreneur is using Twitter’s logo itself as a joke.

Dogecoin

Elon Musk who bought Twitter for $44 billion last fall is a well-known superfan and advocate of Dogecoin, the cryptocurrency that started as a joke to mock other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin in 2013. Musk took every opportunity to promote Dogecoin and boost its valuation, whether it was to his 133 million followers on Twitter or his appearance on “Saturday Night Live” last year, which gave the “meme coin” a tremendous increase in value. After the change to Twitter’s logo on Monday, the value of Dogecoin rose more than 20%.

Whether this comes as a belated April Fool’s joke or an attempt at raising Dogecoin’s value, this does not change the fact that Elon Musk is currently facing a $258 million racketeering lawsuit, which alleges that he ran a pyramid scheme to promote Dogecoin. On Friday evening, Musk’s lawyers stated in a filing with Manhattan’s federal court that his tweets which caused Dogecoin’s price to shoot through the roof were nothing more than jokes.

This of course is not the first time Musk’s lawyers have had to defend his tweets before the court. This sudden change in Twitter’s Home page logo could hurt the billionaire entrepreneur as his attempts to prove that his memes and tweets are not part of a larger pump-and-dump scheme will be looked at with more and more suspicion.
