Kering Bans Animal Fur!

Gucci, Balenciaga, YSL and many more to go fur-free starting Fall 2022.

Kering Bans Animal Fur!

This is a much needed change in the industry. From what we were before, may it be – slavery, colourism, the rich sticking to silk, meals with  exotic animal meats – to diversity, oneness, sustainability and conscious consumption — We are only moving forward. Make a cut above the average or get a shot in the arm.

Kering takes to Instagram it’s newest announcement of going fur free by a series of posts and a change in it’s display icon. 10,316 views within 24 hours of this announcement guarantees how everyone will be inspired by this. View the entire Press Release: here

“The young generation of designers, they don’t want to [use] fur. They want to be responsible, ethical and eco friendly,” says Marie-Claire Daveu, Kering’s Chief Sustainability and Institutional Affairs Officer. “It’s modern luxury. It’s a really great step in our journey.”

“Gucci really jump-started the latest wave of brands going fur-free. I think an announcement like this further signifies that modern fashion wants nothing to do with fur and the risks associated with that trade,” says PJ Smith, Fashion Policy Director at the Humane Society of the United States. “I think it’s a message to other companies, mainly LVMH, to choose compassion and innovation over really an outdated view of what luxury is.” (LVMH did not respond to a request for comment before time of publication to Vogue Business.)

Many brands outside of the Kering group are following the same stance on fur. Valentino are phasing out its usage in their garments, and Oscar de la Renta have too. The latter did so after Billie Eilish collaborated with them on her Met Gala look, agreeing to wear the brand so long as they stuck to their word on fur usage. All in all, this a progressive step forward to sustainable and meaningful change in the fashion industry.
