The term is being being used to describe a new subculture of social media users and the tag #VSCOgirls has taken social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram by storm.
VSCO girls are used to describe a new trend that teens have started implementing that incorporate beachy-style and “relatable” characteristics. Like wanting to “Save The Turtles” because Twitter has made it a trend to care about climate change instead of actually researching how to properly care for the environment.
According to Refinery29 “. . . the average VSCO girl is a devoted student and user of the VSCO photo editing app, which became popular for its sunny, faded, SoCal-inspired photo filters. VSCO has about 20 million active weekly users.”
(The popular photo-editing app does not take credit for the social media craze.)
YouTube sensation and content creators Emma Chamberlain (@emmachamberlain) could be best described as the ultimate #VSCOgirl (although we’re sure she genuinely cares about environmental issues.)
