Good news all Twitter lovers!

Twitter has brought a new way for Community admins to increase engagement within Communities, by enabling them to pin tweets at the top of a Community tab.

What is a Twitter Community?

Twitter Communities is a designated space for users to relate, share, and find it easier to discover the topics that are important to them.

They are categorized into 2 groups, Open Communities (that you can join freely) and Invite Only Communities.

In the Communities with open membership,  click the Join button in the upper part of the page, beneath the Community’s name.

The goal of Twitter communities is to allow anyone to form a circle of like-minded users who have similar interests, personal hobbies, passions & ambitions.

Moreover, these communities facilitate communication with just their group as opposed to sending out a mass Tweet to all of his\her followers.

The community’s founder or creator is responsible to choose the topic, invite those who share the same interest and of course set a guideline of rules.

In some ways, you can compare this feature to Reddit forums or Facebook, where almost a communication hub is created for ongoing discussions.

All about the new option to pin Tweets in Communities

Community admins now have an added option to ‘Pin to Community Timeline’ for any Community tweet.

What this does is, it allows that specific tweet to remain at the top of the ‘Community feed’, predominantly functioning as a discussion starter for others users to reply to or engage with.

In an official statement given by the platform:

“Some Tweets deserve the spotlight, which is why mods and admins can now pin their Community Tweets on web. This feature was highly requested and we’re excited to see how you use it. Coming soon — the ability for mods and admins to pin their Community Tweets on iOS and Android!”

As some users have not exactly found the value in Communities, many are hoping that this added feature will bring about more specific engagement that is relevant.

The complexity of Communities is that it does limit reach and dialouge opportunities as you have to categorize the topic of discussion.

It all narrows down to your point of view and the value you’re pushing from your Twitter Communities presently. Pinned tweets may assist to initiate some further engagement in this aspect.

For brands and creators, it is a great tool to spark further interest and increase awareness about new products or projects, within these segmented groups.

To tweet within a community, follow the same steps as you would for any other tweet; simply change the option at the top just beside your profile image.

You can view community posts by proceeding to the communities tab, which will display tweets from all of the communities you are a member of.

On the other hand, you can also go directly to a Community page to see a chronological order for that particular group.

It will be interesting to see the impact this has on brands and further how exactly this will play out as the Elon Musk Twitter drama continues.
