LinkedIn now appears to be testing with generative AI feed posts, via recommendations within the composer, and integrating AI-generated profile summaries and job descriptions.
As illustrated in the example below by app researcher Nima Owji, you would be prompted to “share your ideas” with LinkedIn’s in-development AI update assistant before receiving suggestions for a rough draft.
Do We Like It So Far?
However, this doesn’t seem like the best thing, especially since one of the suggested sample topics is “opinion about a new trend.” To put it simply, the AI would create an opinion for you, which seems to be a shortcut to more unwanted content on the feed.
Undoubtedly, LinkedIn is a haven for wannabe entrepreneurs and professionals looking for advice to upscale their professional journey. However, the biggest and most obvious drawback of integrating AI is that if everyone starts posting AI-generated thoughts, what’s the point? Because no real advice would be coming from real people.
The Bigger Picture
However, LinkedIn’s parent company, Microsoft, is working to integrate generative AI into all of its apps in an effort to ride the early wave that has so far garnered a lot of attention and even brought back relevance to its Bing search engine.
Embrace or reject, the app is going to do its part. And the future is set to have a hike in similar technologies. This may eventually result in a large number of bots conversing with one another while real people are amused by how they are deceiving one another.
This professional hub has major plans to revolutionize networking with AI experimentation, forging a new era of connection and innovation. But is this connection going to be between people or bots?
