Alex Russo is back!!
Fans of “Wizards of Waverly Place” may rejoice: magical siblings Alex and Justin Russo will return to television in the pilot for the show’s new sequel, “Wizards.”
Disney Branded Television confirmed to CBS News that Selena Gomez and David Henrie, who played Alex and Justin in the original sitcom that debuted in 2007, will executive produce the pilot.
The Pilot
Gomez will appear in the pilot as a guest star, while Henrie will play Justin on a regular basis. The cast will also include new arrivals to Waverly Place, like Janice LeAnn Brown, Alkaio Thiele and Mimi Gianopulos.
The pilot episode was written by Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, who also worked on the reboot of “That’s So Raven.”
On her Instagram story, Gomez shared a flashback shot of herself and Henrie on the set of “Wizards of Waverly Place” with the message, “We’re back.” She also stated that she is “so excited” with a photo of Deadline’s scoop and an image of what appears to be the “Wizards” pilot screenplay with the phrase, “Home again.”

Disney Channel and Henrie also hinted at the surprise, posting the front cover of the pilot screenplay alongside a wand on Instagram.
“The Russos are excited to become a part of your family, but we’ve grown,” Henrie said in the description to his image. “2024, the year magic comes back.”
