If you’re a fan of Mario Party it’s time to get very excited.
Snapchat is rolling out Snap Games, a new mobile gaming feature that will allow Snap users to play games within the app amongst friends.
(But don’t worry, Snap Games won’t reveal your location like Snap Maps does.)
That’s right, Snapchat Games are officially here.
The Story-sharing platform revealed the new feature last week at its Snap Partner Summit.
“We wanted to build something that makes us feel like we’re playing a board game with a family of over a long holiday weekend. Something that makes us feel like we’re sitting with friends, controllers in hand, looking at the same screen,” Snap Inc’s head of gaming, Will Wu, said to TechCrunch.
According to Digiday the new gaming feature will run six-second, non-skippable video ads which will generate revenue to be shared with game developers.
Introducing Bitmoji Party!
According to Snapchat’s blog, Snap Games will be launching six new games. Bitmoji Party will be the first game to be rolled out worldwide and will cast players as their personalized avatars.
Here’s a quick round-up of the games below…
- In Bitmoji Party, users can play as themselves in a series of quick “mini-games” (Snapchat describes this game as “wacky”
- In Tiny Royale Snap friends shoot to the top in bite-sized Battle Royale action game (think Fortnite style)
- In Snake Squad Snap friends work together to be the last ones standing
- In C.A.T.S. Drift Race users drift around the track and speed past friends for the win!
- In Zombie Rescue Squad, Snap friends will rescue survivors in a zombie-infested city
- In Alphabear Hustle, Snapchatters collaborate to form words — fast! — to build a village.
How To Play Snap Games
There’s no need to install a new app in order to play your favorite Snap Games.
While the new games feature is still being rolled out worldwide (i.e. it might take a few weeks before you have access to Snap Games), users who have access to games will be able to find it in their Chat bar. Snap friends will be able to play together instantly within the native Snapchat app.
“You can see which friends you’re playing with, send them a chat, or even talk live with voice chat. It feels like you’re sitting shoulder to shoulder, playing on the same screen,” Snapchat said.
Exciting times, Snapchat! We can’t wait to start playing Snap Games with our friends.
